Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov 20 2008

dacount1Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it’s the forgotten holiday. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, me favorite memory of Thanksgiving in my family was years ago when my mom put up construction paper on one whole wall in the kitchen. Before dinner it was our job to write or draw what we’re thankful for every day. It was awesome to sit around the dinner table and talk about what we’re thankful for. So, here’s my list this year:

Halo: I am so thankful for this man. He’s my calm, my voice of reason, my zero, the beginning. He’s helped me in so many ways I can’t begin to count. I love hanging out and listening to music, watching movies and cuddling on the couch, hanging out with friends, going to the mountains, learning how to shoot… so many experiences to talk about that I absolutely treasure. Halo, it’s you and me honey and I love you!

Mommy: How awesome is it that my best friend is my mom? She rocks my socks! She’s my sounding board, my bitching post… LOL…. she endures my tirades after I get off work everyday from being upset about work or something else that’s completely crazy. She lets me be me and is there for me unconditionally! Mommy! I can’t wait to see you tomorrow!!! Yay!

Brothers and Sisters: So many to talk about but all extremely vital in my life. Well… there are a few that I don’t talkto at all and I think it’s best left that way, but Dave, Pete, Anna, Teri & Tanya you all are my goober nuts and I love what our relationship has grown into! I love that we get along so well and even though there’s a lot of distance between us we can come together like it was only yesterday we saw one another! (Ewan and Lucas too! My little nephews, I love you!)

Friends! Wow… I have some of the bestest friends EVER!!!!

Michelle… you are my sister that I never knew I had! I love you dearly and I couldn’t be more proud of you!

Cadie, thank you for always having something fun to talk about and thank you for making me laugh! I love you homey!

The Starline crew… good drinks, good times… lots o laughs! I love it!

The Fright Night crew… geez what would life be like without you? Hahahaha!! It’s all about the Haunt!

The ROGUE buddies! Ah yeah, we’re going to blow it up in 2009!!!

APJ you are my partner in crime! I can’t wait to kick ass with you! Lime, I love you honey and the connection we just discovered is truly a blessing to me!

To everyone I didn’t mention I love you too…. to those that have come and gone out of my life, I am thankful for the times we had together and the love that was shared!

I hope you and yours have a wonderful Turkey Day and please remember to always say Thank You. It’ll make someone smile!

Da Count – A Good Night Sleep Friday, Nov 14 2008

dacountGetting back into work mode after the shell shock of Fright Night wore off and engaging my brain after vacation time in Santa Cruz can be a bit of a challenge. Probably because I don’t feel well rested. I’ve been tense and stressed and trying to gear myself up for the upcoming projects I’ve signed on to, but I’m feeling unprepared and unfocused. Last night I had a quiet night of lying on the couch and watching a bad B girlie movie with the dogs. I was in bed before 11pm. I slept like a rock.

I woke up this morning feeling good. Refreshed. Ready to tackle the stress of the day and the tension I felt last night. Today I’ll actually get ahead of the schedule so I’m not slammed when it comes to my vacation to Washington to see the Mommy. It’s not a surprise this time, but I’m very much so looking forward to spending 9 days out of California. I think this trip will be good for the soul.

Tonight is a hockey game and there’s a group of us going to hang out and celebrate a friend’s birthday. It should be a great time! I’m looking forward to it!

Happy Friday!

While in Santa Cruz Tuesday, Nov 11 2008

Halo and I hung out with some friends of his that post on an independent website. I’m addicted to this song!

MIDI Mob: I Don’t Believe You

It’s possible these guys plus the rest of the 2nd Rate crew will be playing in Fresno in January! Woot!

Check them out!

Monterey Bay Aquarium! Monday, Nov 10 2008

This last Saturday Halo and I went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was great! After work Friday we jumped in Mountain-bot (the name of Halo’s 4 Runner) drove to Santa Cruz, crashed out and woke up early for some fishy viewing! The car ride over was nice. Dark but it felt really good to be getting out of town for some relaxation.

The Aquarium was really neat! We got there just ahead of the major feeding schedules! We started at the Outer Bay which is their deep sea attraction. There is a HUGE tank filled with sharks (eeeek! Halo held my hand so I wasn’t scared), sardines, dolphinfish, HUGE tunas and this guy:

101_0483He’s a Sunfish. I’d never seen one of these things before and it’s one of the coolest fishies out there! He’s a slow moving, I’m just going to hang out, kinda fishy. It was really cool to see him get fed. He kinda went up to a floating bit of squid and sucked in the food like a vacuum. It was awesome!

In the same section there’s a bunch of different types of Jellyfish!

101_0476After that feeding we went over to the Kelp Forest where we saw a scuba diver hand feed a bunch of fish that live in the kelp. It was very cool to see! 🙂

We caught up with the penguins and sea otters. They were feeding the sea otters which are VERY cute! Their cute little hands are SO much like humans! The groom themselves by balling up their hands and scrubbing their fuzzy faces.

After the Aquarium Halo and I hung out in and around Santa Cruz. Met up with some friends. Found out about a Redman & Method Man concert that would have been sick to see. The ride back was nice. we had to come back a little early because we went to the Carpy Awards which was the closing party for Fright Night Scream Park.

All in all it was a nice, relaxing weekend. I had a really good time with Halo just hanging out. We really needed to get out of town and just relax!

Next trip is to my mom’s in Washington for Thanksgiving! 😀

This I Cannot Stand For. Thursday, Nov 6 2008

The hate and discrimination that Proposition 8 brought down. I’m upset over the approval of this Proposition. Taking away the right to marriage because of sexual preference is wrong. This is my opinion. I understand there are people out there that have different opinions, that’s ok, there’s Free Will for that. But I cannot sit quietly and allow the hate and discrimination to wash over me and directly effect my friends.

I was talking with a friend, Jacob, about Proposition 8. He’s gay. I adore Jacob! He told me that he respected those who voted Yes on 8 because of their religious beliefs. Yes, period. Those that voted Yes because of trumped up excuses (children’s education, blah blah blah) aren’t as easily understood or even respected. And this made me think. At one point in time I would have stood behind the religion my parents taught me and made a decision based on that, but a religious belief versus a lifestyle are two different things. And, the issue of separation of Church and State is HUGE in this instance.

So, I’m not going to rant and rave any more trying to convince everyone that my opinion is right. To each their own. But, if you think Proposition 8 encourages hate and allows for discrimination then please go to the petition and sign.

We should not discriminate based on race, gender or sexual orientation.

The De-Briefing Wednesday, Nov 5 2008

So, the conversation went a little like this…

Brandon: “Yeah, we’re going to open a Haunted House and will need a ton of actors for that.”

Solitaire: “Oh, I can help you get the word out with the Rogue peeps.”

Brandon: “Really? That would be great!”

And thus my connection to the Fright Night Scream Park began. Mind you this was back in June and we were talking about October, but the Rogue gets planned all hecka early so… sure, I’d help out however I can.

Phew, was I in for a ride! I had NO idea how much work actually goes into a Haunted House! The sheer amount of man power it takes to get even just one attraction up off the ground let alone 4 separate attractions all manned by numerous actors in costume and make up…. dang!

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Actor training workshops were ran out at the Carpathian Ranch and we had a small but excited group come out once or twice a week. Make up training and prop making all happened  out at the Ranch for months before we even got over to the location! All of this was a bit daunting due to the fact that I had NEVER taught acting before, and even worse, I hated haunted Houses! Haha! I used a lot of the Theatre Ventoux method of training I had received. For me, that system works. I can tune into my body as the tool I am using to act with and really submerge myself in whatever situation presents itself. Improvisation was key! All the actors that came out, most of which had NO actor training at all, were a little skeptical about the games we were playing. “Why should we listen to a girl running around looking like she’s an ape?”  Well, if I’m willing to throw myself out there then maybe they would too. And boy did they!

Gary and his family came out and really helped progress the process a lot further than I could have ever imagined! Gary had Haunt experience and I had stage experience… it was a match made in heaven! We worked together with the actors, transferred over to the site and really got into some good work. Our numbers tripled once we were at the location. Young and old came out to play and participate and I’m thankful for every one of them! Without those actors there wouldn’t have been a Haunt! Well, Jeff and Gary and myself would be acting in all the rooms, but hey… the show always must go on!

Vampire crews and emergency training sessions happened all the way up through opening night and even after. The Haunt opened! The Haunt brought in an audience! Regardless of the final outcome, the Haunt was a success! It was truly amazing to watch! Of course there were bumps in the road… but show me an entertainment endeavor that’s not a little bumpy! Bottom line is Fright Night Scream Park made a splash into Fresno and Clovis and the company is here to stay!

The picture at the top of this post is a picture of those of us that worked on the Haunt in various forms. There’s Dave and Halo who worked on sound making over 350 individual sounds the even freaked out our actors, Brandon and Jeff who were some of the brains behind this whole endeavor, Scott who is the man when it comes to fixing the crazy props we had, Williz who did a bit of everything and Fox who came from Sacramento to help in whatever way possible. These are the heads, a core group of friends that has gone through a lot together, and I’m blessed to be in this group!

All in all this was a truly wonderful experience that taught me a lot. The lessons I learned here will help me with my future projects, including the one that’s closest, the Rogue!

So yeah, that’s all I have to say about that really. Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

Oh yeah… and a very Happy Birthday to my dear friend APJ!!!!

I love November 5th… Tuesday, Nov 4 2008

…because it’s all over and the bitching and whining will begin and the finger pointing and the positioning for the next election happens. And I start the count down to my birthday. Yup, i was born on inauguration day and woot I get to celebrate another lack luster “lesser of the 2 evil” candidate getting sworn in…. BAH!

The Primary election came and went and I didn’t cast my vote in the election. WHAT?!?!?! Yes, despite the royal “HOW DARE YOU!!” I got for making the decision, I didn’t vote because I was unknowledgableabout the position at hand. I could not justify letting my voice be heard (riiiight…. like anything comes down to just one vote anymore…) on a position I didn’t not fully agree with.

This election was a farce. Dramatic and all scripted and a total sham. I’m disgusted with everything about it. I voted absentee and yes, I wrote in a candidate because I disagree with both choices that were given to me. But in a year after the new President takes office I have a funny feeling all those campaign promises that were SO integral to a candidate winning will be no where in sight. Just because one man says this will happen or this won’t happen… doesn’t make it so… our government isn’t built that way so…. BAH!

The important issues for me in this election were some of the Propositions. 1A, 2, 4 and 8 to name a few. No, I probably didn’t vote the way my designated party would have wanted me to… but then again I don’t really associate with a political party. I’m a liberal Republican, a conservative Democrat… middle of the road I’m-going-to-make-up-my-own-mind-on-an-issue type of person. And that’s that.

::phew:: now that I got that over with.

Catching up:

Fright Night Scream Party closed. It was successful for a first year. I am exhausted and recovering from a cold/flu bug that’s not pretty. Halo and I are going to try and get to the coast this weekend, but if we’re both sick we might just lock the doors, turn off all the lights and sleep the bug away. We’ll see what happens.

Rogue is fast and coming and I’m OCD-ing my way through the applications and scheduling. We’ll have everything set pretty early this year, which is great because a jump on all of this would be NICE!

Ok, enough for now. I want a nap. I have more work to catch up on. Ugh…
